Biography
Gholam-Hossein Shokoohi, who is known as the father of Iranian Education, was born in June, 26th, 1926, in Khusf, Birjand. He went to Shokootieh School and after studying in preparatory school, started his career as a teacher.
After he obtained a diploma, Mr. Shokoohi was admitted to Tehran Supreme Teacher Training School and obtained a bachelor degree in elementary education in 1956. In 1962, he managed to obtain a Ph.D. degree in education from a Swiss university. Gholam-Hossein Shokoohi passed away on May 5th, 2016.
History and Activities
After he returned to Iran, Mr. Shokoohi got a job in Education Ministry while he was teaching at Tehran Supreme Teacher Training School. He was a pioneer teacher in the field of education, as well as the first education minister of Islamic Republic of Iran. Since he had a Ph.D. degree in Education Science and due to his 60-year experience in education and research, he is titled as the eminent face of Iranian education.
Dr. Shokoohi was retired after a history of 57-year teaching, having one of the highest education ranks at the time. However, he did not quit teaching after retirement and was teaching at Birjand University and Tehran Teacher Training University.
