Emphasis on International Engagement in Teacher Education Highlighted at Farhangian Teacher Education University (FTEU) Think Tank Session
According to the Public Relations Office at FTEU, the second meeting of the University’s Think Tank, chaired by Dr. Rajab Ali Borzooei, focused on student internships and strategies for advancing international cooperation. During the session, participants engaged in in-depth discussions and analysis concerning the current state and desired improvements in the university’s practicum programs. Based on the outcomes of these deliberations, it was agreed that new directives should be drafted to reform relevant processes and submitted to the Teacher Education Program Coordination Group. Furthermore, the significance of fostering interactions with international organizations, particularly in the field of teacher education, was underscored.
In this session, Hossein Omidi, Director of International Affairs, presented three key initiatives: the establishment of the Association of BRICS Countries' Teacher Education Universities, the Association of Teacher Education Universities of the Islamic World, and the Association of Teacher Education Universities affiliated with the Network of Virtual Universities of the Islamic World (CINVU), operating under the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Omidi highlighted FTEU unique standing as the world’s largest teacher education university in terms of student-teacher numbers and nationwide distribution, and its robust capacity, thanks to its experienced and knowledgeable faculty members and administrators, to elevate its status within the global landscape of teacher education.
In line with the university Chancellor’s commitment to achieve scholarly leadership in Islamic education both within the region and across the Islamic world, Omidi stated that the International Affairs Office is making efforts, in accordance with national regulations and by studying the requirements and prerequisites, to pave the way for the establishment of such international associations. He further expressed hope that, with comprehensive support from different university departments and after obtaining the necessary permits, this initiative would contribute significantly to FTEU’s global reputation and the broader representation of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The session participants expressed their appreciation and support for the proposal advanced by the Directorate of International Affairs, and granted principal approval to the concepts involved. They emphasized the importance of enhancing the university’s standing within international ranking systems, considering such efforts as essential and a matter of strategic importance.
