The first summer school program of science education
at Farhangian University

 

 

 

 

The first summer school program of science education at Farhangian University began on 16 August and ended on 30 August 2015. During this period, a group of university teachers of different disciplines of science educators from across the country became familiar with the new prospects of science education in today's world. Based on ten key areas of science education, around 54 articles were selected for review in this summer school. In addition, more updated resource articles and books on various topics were presented to participants and their themes and perspectives were elaborated.


The summer workshop was held for two groups, each took a week, and it comprised learning theories and its importance in science education, the topic of emotional factors of motivation, interest, attitude and the importance of learning science and the theory of conceptual change, the goal of constructivism in learning and science education, and its influencing factors which all were discussed and elaborated.


Other topics of discussion of this summer school in the context of science, technology, environment and society, as well as the nature, philosophy, history and sociology of science and the impact of them in science education, were taken into account. In each workshop field trip during which the importance of getting out of the class and using any possible environment for teaching and applied sciences were also noted. At the end of each workshop participants were involved in assessing and evaluating the summer school.


Prof. Mahmoud Mehrmohammadi – acting president of Farhangian University – attended the ending ceremony to thank all and to hear university teachers’ voice. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Amani, head of curriculum and textbooks of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Dadras , from professional development and Dr. Dordinejad, management of International Relations of Farhangian University. Prof. Mahmoud Mehrmohammadi asked the opinion of University teachers and faculty members participated in the course and thanked the organizers of this summer school. He stated that investing in professional development of teacher students and university teachers is our priorities in this university and added that it is expected that you return to your campuses and you should transfer this acquired valuable knowledge and skill, in an entrepreneurial manner, to other colleagues to promote their views and to witness the upbringing and the bulks of academic investment.


He stated that one of the most prominent academic policies is to educate Resource Persons from among of our faculty members in their field of specially. These individuals would be selected and trained to provide education in special areas for faculty members. Prof. Mahmoud Mehrmohammadi stated that we still have a long way to go and a lot of work has yet remained to be done in reaching a perfect education system. He added that  one way to overcome the shortcomings and reach the desired point is additional training, which can be play a significant role in development of  the education system.


He said that the activity requires greater coordination between the Office of Management and author of textbooks and Farhangian University. Finally Prof. Mehrmohammadi presented certificates of appreciation to Dr. MALEKAN as the instructor of the workshop for his great efforts and praised the training and implementation period.
